Summary

Super Bowl rings are more than flashy jewelry—they’re powerful symbols of victory, legacy, and craftsmanship.

  • Custom design: Each ring is uniquely crafted to reflect the team’s journey and identity.
  • Valuable materials: Made with gold, diamonds, and sometimes platinum, they can be worth over $50,000.
  • Behind the scenes: Created by top jewelers like Jostens, with months of design and production work.

As Super Bowl LVIII approaches, the anticipation builds for the millions of football fans eagerly awaiting the clash between the San Francisco 49ers and the Kansas City Chiefs to see which powerhouse team will take the prestigious Vince Lombardi Trophy and the esteemed title of "World Champions."

Beyond the thrilling gameplay, the aftermath of this grand spectacle promises a whirlwind of opportunities for star players. From instant fame to multi-million-dollar endorsement deals, the rewards of victory shine brighter than ever on Super Bowl Sunday. But among the many accolades that come with the championship title, one seems to glimmer brighter than the rest.

The coveted Super Bowl ring, of course.

To casual onlookers and football fans, the ring flashes team pride with a bold and unique design that seems to amp up the sparkle and shine every year.

For athletes, the ring represents the highs and lows of the championship journey, from enduring injuries to lifting the trophy amidst confetti. These memories are cherished, and the ring serves as a tangible reminder of their triumphs.

Take a look at the blinged-out evolution of Super Bowl rings from over the years.

Super Bowl ring facts:

Who makes and designs the Super Bowl rings? The national jewelry maker Jostens has made a majority of the Super Bowl rings to date, however, other designers include Tiffany & Co. and Balfour. According to Jostens, it takes about four months to design, create and distribute the Super Bowl rings.

Who has the most Super Bowl rings? The New England Patriots have the most Super Bowl wins with six, and Tom Brady has the most rings for any individual player with seven.

How much is a Super Bowl ring worth? Some Super Bowl rings can sell for over $50,000 on the resale market, depending on who wore it and the popularity of the Super Bowl game.

Who pays for the Super Bowl rings? The NFL awards the championship team the first 150 rings and pays roughly $5,000 for each ring to be made. It is up to the team owner to cover the difference if the ring costs more to make, or if extra rings are needed.

What are Super Bowl rings made of? For decades, Super Bowl rings were primarily made from gold and diamonds. However, the 2010 Green Bay Packers were the first team to have a ring set in platinum. But even Super Bowl rings can chip! Justin Coleman of the New England Patriots and his teammate were wearing their rings for the first time and gave each other a fist bump. Later that day, he noticed a few of his diamonds had chipped.

Why jewelry insurance is a game-changer

While you might not have a Super Bowl ring that’s worth several thousand dollars, our guess is you probably own an engagement ring worth much more in sentimental value. Maybe you have a special heirloom passed down through your family that you’d like to give to your children someday.

If you want to protect these moments for a lifetime, we’ve got a few helpful tips to “touch down” on!

Appraisals and insurance: protecting life’s fumbles

An appraisal is a process through which a qualified jewelry professional or appraiser will examine your jewelry to determine its overall value.  It's important to get your jewelry appraised at least every two years, especially if you have any pieces that are particularly valuable or sentimental.

Why? Getting a jewelry appraisal helps determine how much coverage you may need and the retail replacement value or cost of replacing your piece in the event of a loss.

This information comes in handy when you’re seeking jewelry insurance - a type of insurance that protects against the most common risks specifically associated with jewelry. While homeowners and renters insurance policies also have the option to protect your jewelry, choosing a standalone insurance policy for your jewelry is the best way to keep your pieces safe for generations to come.
